Get in the Game: Your Winning Playbook for Positive Parenting
Parenting, much like coaching a team, requires a solid strategy, a deep understanding of the players, and the ability to adapt to any situation. It’s about leading with confidence, celebrating the wins, and learning from the fumbles.
At Personalized Therapy, we understand that every parent wants to be the best coach they can for their child. And with that in mind, we are excited to announce our new six-week online course kicking off on Monday, November 10th at 5:30pm: The Parent’s Playbook: Your Game Plan for Positive Behavior.
More Than Just a Game: Parenting with a Purpose
We’re putting the “power” in parenting. Consider this your Advanced Scouting Report. We’re moving past “Parenting 101” to arm you with the proven science and principles of behavior so you can consistently execute and dominate the goal line of positive change. The Parent’s Playbook is designed for any parent looking to build a stronger, more positive relationship with their child by learning the fundamentals of behavior and understanding the universal principles that shape how children act and react.
Led by our own Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), Katie Camp, this virtual group will equip you with proven strategies and the confidence to guide your child’s behavior with success. Just as a football coach designs plays to lead their team to victory, this course provides you with a set of core “plays” for positive parenting.
Your Playbook for Success: What You Will Learn in Our Time Together
Over six weeks, we will dive into the evidence-based strategies that form the foundation of positive behavior support. You will move beyond simply reacting to challenging moments and learn how to proactively shape a more harmonious home environment.
Here is a look at some of the highlights of the course:
- The ABCs of Behavior: Every play starts with a setup. We will teach you how to identify the Antecedent (what happens before a behavior), the Behavior itself, and the Consequence (what happens after). Understanding this sequence is the first step to understanding the function of your child’s behavior—what are they trying to achieve or communicate?
- Mastering Antecedent Strategies: In the NFL, it is often said that the best offense is a good defense. This module focuses on proactive strategies to set your child up for success. You’ll learn how to arrange the environment and routines to prevent challenging behaviors before they even start. It is about creating a game plan that makes positive choices the easiest and most natural ones for your child to make.
- The Power of Functional Communication: So much of challenging behavior is simply a child’s attempt to communicate a need they don’t have the words for. We will show you how to teach and reinforce effective communication skills so your child can express their wants and needs in a more positive way. This can be a game-changer for reducing frustration for both you and your child.
- Planned Ignoring and Extinction: Not every play warrants a reaction. Learning when and how to strategically ignore certain behaviors can be one of the most powerful tools in your playbook. This is not about being permissive; rather, it is about understanding which behaviors are fueled by attention and how to effectively withdraw that reinforcement.
- The Art of the Follow-Through: As a coach, your word is your bond, and it is important to be consistent in your approach. When you say what you mean and mean what you say, you create a predictable and secure environment for your child. We will give you the tools to follow through on instructions and expectations calmly and effectively.
- Harnessing the Power of Reinforcement: How do you ensure your star players keep making great plays? You celebrate their successes! Reinforcement is the key to building and strengthening positive behaviors. You will learn how to effectively praise and reward your child in a way that motivates them to continue making better behavioral choices.
